Recently I picked up Mentor to Millions by Kevin Harrington and Mark Timm from the library. I believe I heard about this book on a podcast and thought it would be a great book to read to help build my business.
Surprise, surprise there was great tips for building a business inside the book! However there was an added bonus to the book. Tips on how to incorporate your family into your business.
The author Mark Timm talks about how he would take his children on business trips with him. As a homeschooling mom, I love the idea of the children learning real world experience of business with their father.
Timm believes that the ideas you use to create a business can be used to build up your family.
I have heard this idea in another book that I have read, The 3 Big Questions for a Frantic Family, where you incorporate ideas from the business world into managing a family.
They both give the idea of doing a 6 month plan for your family and business. Sit down as a family and talk about what your goals and dreams are. Then with your spouse sit down and talk about where you both want in 6 months. What will your finances look like? What actives will you be doing? Were will you go on vacation? (Okay so this info is taken from both books and merged to create more questions.)
I will admit I have not sat down with my family yet to make a 6 month plan, but I would love to do one with my husband.
Another great take away was to be curious. Ask – Why are you doing this? What we’re doing? What should we be doing? How can be a better family, better parents and children, and have a stronger family?
There are so many great take aways from this book.
What is your one big take away from this book?
