The alarm goes off way before the sun is thinking about making an appearance for the day. I groggily head downstairs to start my morning routine of prayer, writing, and other creative activities. I will end the morning with a quick workout depending on the day, and when my children wake up.
Morning routines vary from person to person. Personally, I do a morning routine so I can help ground myself and prepare for the day. I cherish the time alone so I can write down the words that need to be said. I can tell you on the mornings that I skip my routine, my days are filled with more frustration.
When I first started doing a morning routine, I would get up and workout, but soon discovered that was not the best way for me to start my morning. As a creative mom I learned that I needed to start my day with a little creativity before all my attention was divided into a million different directions once everyone else wakes up.
Your routine depends on what you like to do in the morning and what you value.
Recently I noticed that my husband was rolling out of bed and heading straight to work which is the computer next to mine in the morning. The next thing I would hear is, “You have to be kidding me,” or very deep sighs because of some email, and he was unprepared to start the day.
After some encouragement from me, where I suggested he wake up a little earlier and prepare his coffee and take time to wake up before looking at work, the mornings have not been as stressful.
